Double Arrow Red

The first documented instance of an American woolen mill selling what are now known as Indian trade blankets was recorded on June 19, 1892. Native Americans had been trading their own precious hand-loomed woolen blankets for generations, but commercial woolen mills finally made these colorful, symbolic, wearable artworks accessible to everyone. American Classic Trade Blankets has revived the classic designs of this era and revitalized the colors, upholding the weaving traditions of the Southwest while bringing them to the world market.

Our blankets bear the name given to it by the original woolen mill, and they reflect elements of the Native cultures that inspired them. Navajo Basket invokes Native Americašs belief in the sacred in fours: the seasons, the directions of the wind, the chambers of the heart, and so on.
Arrows are prominently featured in two blankets, symbols of Native strength and tenacity. A fascinating Cubist design of rhythmic stripes, checks and stepped cross patterns has been reinterpreted as Shoshone. Zuni celebrates the design elements of rug weavers and Anasazi potters. Rio Arriba represents a single thread spun throughout the weaving cultures of the Southwest.

When brought in to decorate the home, the rich colors, complex patterns and dense texture draw the eye and invite the touch. The blankets make a bold statement when worn as a robe, and each blanket can be refitted as a garment, such as a vest or a contemporary jacket. If you like the way they look, youšll love the way they feel. The fine New Zealand wool fiber and tight weave make these exceptionally soft, dense, superior quality blankets.
Bring a blanket home and enjoy its tradition and beauty.
